Night Sky Adventure: Our Friend the Moon (Dudley Observatory)

Even though humans haven’t set foot on the moon in over 40 years, NASA and other space agencies have been actively studying the moon using satellites and robotic landers. Come learn about some of the latest discoveries, and enjoy a live planetarium show. Come back to miSci on October 8th to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night! 

Night Sky Adventures are astronomy fun for the whole family! Educators from the Dudley Observatory, in conjunction with volunteers from the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers group, present astronomy lessons, activities, planetarium shows and night sky viewing (weather depending). Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. One or more telescopes will be provided for public use. Great for all skill levels!


Cost: Free with miSci admission.

Join other museum visitors in this out-of-this-world experience! See what it's like to do experiments in space and take home a souvenir from your experience. Please Note: Space is limited. To guarantee a spot, reserve tickets in advance at 518-382-7890 x 237; or purchase tickets when you arrive at miSci (if space is available).

Seniors (65+), admission + $8

Adults (13+), admission + $10 

*Children under 7 must be EACH accompanied by an adult. All other children must have at least one accompanying adult.

Octagon Barn Party: Mysteries of Meteorites (Dudley Observatory)

Join the Dudley Observatory and the Albany Area Amateur Astronomers for star-gazing and an astronomy lesson at the Knox Octagon Barn in Delanson, NY. 

This month's talk with feature Dr. Heather Watson speaking on the Mysteries of Meteorites. 

Octagon Barn Star Parties include 1 hour talks by local astronomy enthusiasts, followed by night sky observing if the weather is clear. Amateur astronomers and families are invited to bring binoculars or telescopes. Telescopes will also be set up for public use. Great for older children and adults!

Teen Science Café: How Do I Communicate in Space?

As miSci prepares for its upcoming ARISS contact with the International Space Station, join Teen Science
Café for a special talk from electro-mechanical R&D expert, Richard St-Pierre.

Known as the “Lab MacGuyver” of IBM, Richard has 30 years of experience in RF/Mixed-Signal testing and holds four patents.

He is an advocate for hands-on STEM education outreach, giving frequent science talks and volunteering as a judge for various robotics competitions.
